Roaming around the ROM

"See-pays." Painting by Paul Kane, 1850.

My dear friend and my cousin, Leonard Rickard is in town and we decided to head out and paint the town brown. One of things we did was hit the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) to check out the First Nations exhibit.

I must say, it is a great collection representing our diverse nations. One thing I realized was how the documentations, such as the above painting, from our non-first nations friends are helping preserve our culture. A large part of me is saying, "man this stuff would be better off in our communities." On the other hand, I for one am happy that our items are proudly displayed for all to see. More so, our nations are seeing the value in exhibitions like this and are entering in as partners in a way of celebrating, not just First Nation culture, but all cultures that make our world history so amazing.
